Questions about our copyright policy?
AUTHOR COPYRIGHT

We believe academics should retain ownership over the copyright of their work wherever possible. Our Copyright Policy attempts to stay true to this principle. Thus, authors who publish with this journal agree to the following terms:

  • Authors retain copyright and grant the journal right of first publication with the work simultaneously licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 international License (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0) that allows others to copy and share the work without modification, and with an acknowledgement of the work's authorship and initial publication in this journal, for non-commercial purposes.

  • Authors are able to enter into separate, additional contractual arrangements for the non-exclusive distribution of the journal's published version of the work (e.g., post it to an institutional repository or publish it in a book), with an acknowledgement of its initial publication in this journal.

  • Authors are permitted and encouraged to post the official published version of their paper online (e.g., in institutional repositories, on websites such as Research Gate or Academia.edu, or on their own personal website), that maintains the HEJ header and footer, as it can lead to productive exchanges, as well as earlier and greater citation of published work, both for the author and the journal.

Libraries, Reviewers, & Readers are permitted to read, download, copy, store, distribute, print, search, or link to the full text of articles published in Historical Encounters without charge.
